Tipi “Buteo”
Red Tail Hawk
B
uteo (Etymology: Buteo is the Latin name of the common buzzard) is a genus of medium to fairly large, wide-ranging raptors with a robust body and broad wings, including the Red Tail Hawk. In the Old World, members of this genus are called “buzzards”, but “hawk” is used in North America.

Tipi Buteo is our first tipi just opened autumn of 2013. It is a traditional Sioux style tipi measuring 20 feet in diameter. It sits on its own private wooded setting on our 40 acre home sanctuary offering a peaceful and secluded retreat. It is finished inside with wood floor, queen bed, indoor chiminea, and seating for 2. Outside is a picnic table, additional seating and fire ring with grate for cooking. Adult couples only.

This is a primitive tipi camping experience. Please be prepared to do some walking to and from your tipi site. You will be required to walk approximately 400 feet from your parking space. The terrain is relatively flat. Transport wagon is provided for your gear. There is no electricity or running water at the tipi site. There is an outdoor water source at the office and a clean, private porta potty. We do stock the tipi with battery operated lanterns, but be sure to bring your own flashlight too.
